People Power forces FUFA and Micho to name Bright Stars striker Nelson Ssenkatuka in CHAN squad
December 22, 2022
After the outcry of the public about the recent CHAN provisional squad named by Uganda Cranes coach, Milutin Sredojevic alias Micho, a new change has now been effected.
This is the calling of Soltilo Bright Stars forward Nelson Ssenkatuka to the squad.
Micho earlier this week named a 35 man squad from which he will pick the final team to represent Uganda at the African Nations Championship slated for next year in Algeria.
However there was no one among the current Uganda Premier League top scorers named in Micho’s squad.
This forced Ugandans to vent their anger against this squad with many saying that the country will indeed do nothing at the tournament.
FUFA seemed to have bowed to this pressure and are now having Nelson Ssenkatuka join the squad today.
The team is currently training at the Philip Omondi stadium in Lugogo.
“@BrightStarsFC striker Nelson Senkatuka added to the @UgandaCranes CHAN Squad. He will be part of the training this morning (9.30am) at Philip Omondi Stadium Lugogo.”
Ssenkatuka has been in fine fom in the 2022-2023 season netting a couple of goals and is one of the top scorers.
He’s also won the the recent November UPL player of the month.
This brings Micho’s provisional squad to 36 players which will have to be narrowed down to about 26.
This tournament is set to go down between January 13th-4th February.
Uganda is in Group B alongside DR Congo, Ivory Coast and Senegal.
The Cranes will be looking to advance from the group stages for the very first time as this will be their 6th participation in the tournament for home based players.
