Here is the reason why Mason Greenwood’s rape case was dropped
February 3, 2023
Yesterday Manchester United fans received news of the charges against their player Mason Greenwood being dropped with mixed reactions.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) revealed how it was dropping the case.
It should be recalled that Mason Greenwood in 2022 was charged with allegations of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.
All these related to his girlfriend.

According to CPS, it had a “duty to stop the case.”
This was due to “withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light”.
And with this development there was “no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.”
“In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case. We have explained our decision to all parties,” part of the statement read.

A statement was released on behalf of the striker reading, : “I am relieved that this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones and friends for their support.
“There will be no further comment at this time.”
His club Manchester United said that they will carry out their own internal investigation before Greenwood is accepted back at Carrington.
“Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped.
“The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”
