MASAZA CUP: Busiro crowned Champions for the first time

Busiro won their first ever Masaza cup against Buddu by a one goal Margin at Mutesa II Stadium Wankulukuku on Saturday 4th March.

Busiro defeated Buddu 2-1 thanks to goals from winger Isaac Ofoyrwoth and midifielder Masuudi Kafumbe.

On the other side, Denis Kalanzi scored the only goal for Buddu.

Busiro looked a better side than Buddu. This saw them score early in the first half before Kalanzi equalled for Buddu.

In the second half, Busiro didn’t stop pushing for a win. Not until Kafumbe scored in the added time to gift them glory.

Airtel Uganda Managing director, Manoj Murali revealed how the company. is willing to continue to support the tournament as it has been in the last 5 years.

” Our participation in the Masaza cup stems over 5 years, and Airtel Uganda will continue to support the tournament”.

The Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga who was the chief guest in the absence of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. graced the finals. He congratulated Busiro and thanked every team that participated.

” This tournament boosts talent among other development opportunities in the region and beyond. l encourage us all to continue being part of the tournaments among other initiatives spearheaded by the kingdom “.

“The teams and individuals who participated in the tournament dedicated their time. They displayed great talent and teamwork on and off the pitch “.

Busiro walked away with cash prize of Sh 12M, Gold medals and glittering trophy.

Meanwhile Buddu walked away with a cash prize of Sh 9M and Silver Medals.

Buddu have now lost 4 finals in the Masaza cup. That is 2015 and 2018 against Singo, 2020 against Gomba, and 2022 against Busiro.

Busiro have joined other Masazas to have won the finals having lost their first final in 2019 against Bulemeezi.
