Crystal Palace sack Patrick Vieira as headcoach

March 17, 2023

Crystal Palace has confirmed the departure of headcoach Patrick Vieira and 3 of his staff members.

This was confirmed in a statement by Palace’s chairmam Steve Parish released on the club’s website.

The three members are Osian Roberts, Kristian Wilson and Saïd Aïgoun.

It should be recalled that Vieira has been the London club for almost 2 years having joined them in 2021.

The former Arsenal captain had some amazing moments with the club.

Among these was leading them to Wembley in an FA Cup semifinal.

“It is with enormous regret that this difficult decision has been made. Ultimately, results in recent months have placed us in a precarious league position and we felt a change is necessary to give us the best chance of retaining Premier League status.”

“That said, Patrick’s impact since joining us in the summer of 2021 has been significant, and he is held in the highest regard by myself, and all of his colleagues. He led the team to a Wembley FA Cup semi-final and respectable 12th placed finish last season playing some exciting football, which was a challenging and crucial campaign for the club given the changes we made to the squad prior to his arrival.”

“Patrick has given his all to the club, and we all thank him and his team for their service.

We also wish Patrick, Osian, Kristian and Saïd the very best for their futures.”

The club has posted some woeful results in the past couple of games.

They last won a game in all competitions on the last day of the year in 2022 after beating Bournemouth 2-0 in the EPL.

They had so far played 12 games since without winning a game.

Palace are currently in the 12th position with 27 points after 27 games.

They are however 3 points above the last relegation spot occupied by Bournemouth who have a game less.

The Eagles play league leaders Arsenal next at the Emirates on Sunday 19th March.
