Vipers became the first side to end Raja Casablanca’s winning streak in the CAF Champions League groupstages.
The Moroccan club has so far played 3 games winning all of them.
They beat Vipers, AC Horoya and Simba SC.
The Venoms were however able to hold them to a 1-1 draw at St Mary’s Kitende.
Vipers started the game brilliantly. Abubaker Lawal and Yunus Sentamu all tried to get the opening goal but in vain.
It was the visitors instead who found the back of the net first.
This was through Soufiane Benjdida in the 18th minute.
Alex Isabirye’s side piled pressure ontk the visitors for an equalizer.
It was until the 45th minute when Nigerian Abubaker Lawal equalized for Vipers and in doing so gave Vipers their first goal in the CAF Champions League groupstages.
Vipers went on to have a brilliant second half and asked more of the questions.
Yunus Sentamu almost got a second in the 70th minute after a through ball from Oliver Osomba.
Hilary Mukundane also almost came close but headed Ashraf Mandela’s cross just wide.
Despite a brilliant second half and a good game overall, the score ended 1-1 giving Vipers their second point in the group.
In the other group E game, Tanzanian giants Simba thrashed Guinean side Horoya AC 7-0.
Simba and Raja Casablanca have now progressed to the knockout stages of the CAF Champions League.
Vipers and AC Horoya will have to try their luck next season.
