Reports coming indicate that the French national team, the Les Bleus is currently divided after PSG striker Kylian Mbappe was named the captain of the National team.

Didier Deschamps on 21st March 2023 confirmed Kylian Mbappe as the new captain.

This followed the retirement of Tottenham Hotspurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris from national duty.

The world cup winning goalie had captained France for 14 years since 2008.

Meanwhile Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann was named the vice captain.

According to Deschamps, Mbappe ticks all the boxes he wanted in a captain.

“Kylian Mbappé is the new France captain. Antoine Griezmann is the vice-captain. Kylian ticks all the boxes to have this responsibility. On the pitch as well as within the squad, by being a key element.”

Now reports coming in indicate that Griezmann is contemplating retiring from the national team.

The 32 year old who started playing for France felt he was disrespected for being overlooked for the captaincy.

According to sources, the player who has picked up 117 caps for France is still considering not turning up for future French games.

The former Barcelona striker has meanwhile scored 42 goals for France.

He was key as they won the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
