Is Lionel Messi quitting PSG for Al Hilal? All you need to know
April 5, 2023
Word has been making rounds that Argentina captain Lionel Messi is set to depart French club Paris Saint Germain (PSG) after the end of his contract in the running season.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner’s time in the French capital has been met with mixed outcomes. Having found it a bit difficult in his first season, Messi has hit the ground running this season.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano announced that Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal had sent in a bid. And are trying to sign the former Barcelona captain.
Further, it’s said that that this contract is worth 400m pounds. This is double his football rival Cristiano Ronaldo‘s at another Saudi Pro Leaugue club Al Nasr.
Romano went ahead to say that PSG wants to keep Messi and have already offered him a new contract. However, the 7 time Ballon Do’r winner is yet to accept this proposal as he reportedly wants to be assured of ‘sporting guarantees.’
His former club Barcelona is also in contact and wants to resign him. Messi’s former teammate and Barca’s current coach Xavi Hernandez is said to be in direct contact with Messi.
However, reports coming in from German Garcia Grova of TyC Sports, indicate that the Argentine has turned down the prospect of going to play in the Saudi Pro League.
The 35 year old’s priority is to remain playing in Europe at least for the foreseeable future. Barcelona are waiting for the Financial Fair Play sanctions on them to be lifted. They will then open talks with their arguably greatest player of all time.
