May 18, 2023
English Premier League side, Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been suspended from football for a period of 8 months. This is after he was found guilty of Football Association betting rules.
His suspension starts with immediate effect and won’t be able to feature for the Bees in their remaining 2 EPL fixtures. These are against Tottenham Hotspurs and Manchester City on the final day.
Apparently the England striker violated 232 breaches of the Football Association’s betting rules. He admitted this reportedly and his ban will end on January 16, 2024. Toney who had so far netted 21 Premier League goals for Brentford was also fined 5O,000 pounds.
Toney was found guilty of these charges by an independent regulatory commission. The striker who has netted 33% of Brentford’s league goals this season won’t be able to train with his teammates until September 17.
The 27 year old was charged with 262 breaches of FA rule E8 between February 25, 2017, and January 23, 2021. Toney, who has represented England once, said he was disappointed. However, he has a right to appeal.
In a statement, Brentford said that they are “awaiting the publication of the written reasons of the independent regulatory commission. We will review them before considering our next steps.”
