Mauricio Pochettino clarifies his position about Lukaku at Chelsea
August 24, 2023
Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino has made his stance known about Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku. The 30 year old is under contract at the London club but clearly doesn’t want to play for them.
Lukaku in fact continues to train alone. Pochettino recently said that any player that doesn’t want to be at the club is free to leave.
The former Manchester United striker hasn’t come out to express his willingness to stay at the club and they feel his only option is to leave.
“Told Pochettino’s position on Romelu Lukaku remains clear: he always said in public and private discussions that he doesn’t want players in the squad who don’t want to be at Chelsea. They didn’t receive different message as of now, as they feel Lukaku only wants to leave,” revealed Fabrizio Romano.
Lukaku spent last season at Inter Milan for his second spell. It was expected that he would rejoin the Italian giants on a permanent basis.
The deal collapsed however after the all time top scorer of Belgium opened talks with the Nerrazuri’s bitter rivals, Juventus. His move to the Old Lady also seems to have stalled as it depends on Dusan Vlahovic’s move which hasn’t yet happened.
Meanwhile Lukaku also seems to be on the radar of another London club, Tottenham Hotspurs although nothing is advanced yet.
