The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) yesterday announced how the joint bid between Morocco, Spain and Portugal had won to host the 2030 World Cup.
Well apparently, this edition will be a very different and special one from the past editions. It’s slated to be hosted by 6 countries across 3 continents.
Uruguay will host the first game of this World Cup in commemoration of the tournament reaching 100 years. It should be noted that the first tournament was held there which the country eventually won.
Argentina came in second while Paraguay were the third runners up in this very first tournament.
After, Argentina and Paraguay will host the next games of this 2030 World Cup. From then on the next games of the tournament will spread out to Europe and Africa amongst Spain, Morocco and Portugal.
FIFA accepted the proposal from CAF, UEFA and CONMEBOL for this edition. The way these games will be arranged will now be subject to FIFA’s Congress.
While speaking about this announcement, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said that football is acting as a glue in a divided world.
“In a divided world, FIFA and football are uniting.
“In 2030, we will have a unique global footprint, three continents – Africa, Europe and South America – six countries – Argentina, Morocco, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay – welcoming and uniting the world while celebrating together the beautiful game, the centenary and the FIFA World Cup.”
Alejandro Dominguez the President of CONMEBOL said that “We aimed high and dreamed big.
“The 2030 Centenario World Cup starts where it all began. The host of the opening matches of the Centenario World Cup will be Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina.”
