Mikel Arteta reveals whether he will drop David Raya for Aaron Ramsdale

October 24, 2023

Arsenal FC coach Mikel Arteta has opened up about whether he will drop his new number one David Raya for the previous spot holder, Aaron Ramsdale.

Raya replaced Ramsdale starting with the London derby against Tottenham Hotspurs and ever since since he’s been in the goal for the Gunners.

However, he’s made a couple of mistakes that almost cost the Gunners. The former Brentford goalie almost gifted Julian Alvarez a goal in the 1-0 win over Manchester City.

Furthermore, Raya almost gifted another goal to Chelsea’s Cole Palmer in the 2-2 draw over the weekend. Many have now urged the Spanish coach to drop the Spaniard custodian. And return Aaron Ramsdale who has been a key figure for the Gunners rebuild.

The English goalie was absent over the weekend as he and wife expecting their first child. Mikel however doesn’t seem he will be dropping Raya as he said that mistakes are common in football.
According to Arteta, what Raya is going through is the pressure of playing at a big club.

“Mistakes happen in football. That is the pressure of playing at a big club. You have to win. And you have to be at your best and you have someone next to you that’s pushing you”.

The Gunners will be in action today in the UEFA Champions League as they play last season’s UEFA Europa League winners, Sevilla. Besides the game will be played at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

Additionally, the Gunners are in second with 3 points after losing their last game to 2-1 to RC Lens. Sevilla has so far collected 2 points from their opening 2 games.
