Ghana Releases Provisional AFCON Squad- Nketiah And Partey?
December 21, 2023
Ghana Releases Provisional AFCON Squad. As the Africa Cup of Nations tournament edges closer, most African countries which qualified for the tournament have started releasing provisional squad names. Apparently several European clubs will be affected by this move since they employ African players.
Arsenal which is competing in three trophies will be one of those affected. One of their key players, Thomas Partey who is returning from injury made Ghana’s provisional list.
The 30 year old has not featured for the Gunners since the 1-0 win over Manchester City. Since his move to the Gunners in 2020 from Atletico Madrid, he’s suffered 9 different injuries.
This has in fact sent the Gunners into the transfer market. Mikel Arteta’s side are keeping tabs on Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz. Apparently they are believed they want to make a move in the January transfer window.
For Eddie Nketiah, the Gunners striker has Ghanaian roots. He had indicated his desire to feature for the Black Stars. However, he’s recently earned a couple of England call ups.
Furthermore, Ghana’s manager Chris Hughton didn’t include him on the list. This means that Arsenal will be without Mohammed El Neny for Egypt and Thomas Partey for Ghana.
