Enzo Fernandez looking for Chelsea exit

February 7, 2024

Enzo Fernandez, a midfielder for Chelsea, is reportedly considering leaving the team. Talks about possible prospects for the gifted midfielder have started with a number of teams by the player’s agents, which include his longtime representative Uriel Perez.

With the help of superagent Jorge Mendes, Fernandez first joined Chelsea for a Premier League record €121 million, but he hasn’t lived up to the hype at Stamford Bridge yet. The World Cup winner’s contract, which runs until 2032 and which the club has exercised a one-year clause in, will undoubtedly be a sticking point. The dynamics around the possible move are still unclear, including if the player or his representation are driving a transfer away.

When he signed, the young player was billed as a “complete midfielder,” but his performances to date have indicated that he is very limited.

“In Enzo we are signing a World Cup-winner and one of the brightest talents in global football,” a statement from Todd Boehly, Chelsea chairman, and Behdad Eghbali, co-controlling owner, read upon reaching an agreement with Benfica.

“We are excited to add him to Graham’s [Potter] squad and we are sure he will form an important part of our team going forward. Enzo has demonstrated his ability at the very highest levels so we’re looking forward to seeing what he will do in Chelsea blue.”

In 49 games, Fernandez has only managed five goals and three assists; it has been more than a year since he joined the West London team.
