Arsenal’s hopes of winning the league hang in balance
March 11, 2024
Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League this season are extremely limited, even with their most recent victory over Brentford (2-1).
Declan Rice and Kai Havertz both scored goals to propel Mikel Arteta’s team to the top of the standings. On Sunday night, Manchester City and Liverpool drew 1-1 at Anfield in an exciting match.
Pep Guardiola’s squad had taken the lead on Merseyside through a goal from John Stones, but Alexis Mac Allister’s penalty kick in the second half made sure that both sides would take home a trophy. With just ten games left, the match will initially be viewed as a big boost for the Gunners; however, a crucial statistic has since surfaced, shattering Arsenal’s prospects of winning the title.
Opta estimates that Arteta’s team, which is currently playing well, has only a 19% probability of winning the Premier League for the first time since 2003. It is important to consider Arsenal’s current form in comparison to that of Manchester City and Liverpool, as the latter two teams appear to benefit from the scheduling of their matches.
Before the season ends, the Gunners still have away games against Aston Villa, Arsenal, and Everton, as well as trips to City, Tottenham, and Manchester United. With the important matchup with Guardiola’s team coming up soon after the March international break, Arteta has said that his team would keep moving forward cautiously.
“There’s a lot of qualities that you need to win that many games in this league in the manner that we’ve done it,” said the 41-year-old after Saturday’s clash with Brentford. “But it’s about being consistent, not being satisfied, and wanting to do more.”
