Uganda Cranes leave it late to earn draw against Ghana in international friendly

In the second friendly of the window on Tuesday in Morocco, Uganda twice came back to draw 2-2 with Ghana thanks to a late equalizer by Muhammad Shaban. After a goal scramble in the area, the KCCA striker seized on a loose ball and forced it beyond the goal line, despite the Black Stars’ complaints that their custodian had been fouled in the process.
In the 22nd minute, Steven Mukwala scored a penalty after Rogers Mato was fouled in the area, negating a penalty that Jerome Opoku had scored in the 7th minute.
Prior to Shaban’s late scrambling goal, Jordan Ayew had also restored the advantage from the penalty spot before halftime.
“I am happy with the result because we played one of the strongest teams of Africa so I think the players made a good performance,” Uganda Cranes coach Paul Put stated a post-match press conference.
“But we may not be blind, for a tournament like world cup qualifiers we conceded two goals again today so we have to learn so that it doesn’t happen in June because if you concede goals, its very difficult to come back,” he added.
The Belgian noticed improvement after the first test match ended in a 4-0 loss to Comoros, and he will be hoping for more when the Cranes return to World Cup qualifying in June.
“I think there is progress but also still a lot of work to do. I hope to recover injured players for the game in June because we had to change a lot so it’s not that easy.”
Put had managed Uganda for four games, recording two wins, two losses, and now a draw. Uganda Ghana
