On Monday night in Cairo, Zamalek defeated rivals Al Ahly 2-1, marking the long-awaited debut of Travis Mutyaba in the Egyptian Premier League.
In the eighteenth minute, Mutyaba entered the game as a substitute for Ahmed Sayed Zizo, the forward, who was hurt and unable to continue.
Mutyaba participated in the match, which is also the fiercest derby in Africa, for 72 minutes as a right winger.
Seifeddine Jaziri, a striker from Tunisia, scored twice for Zamalek, while Ahmed Abdelkader, an Al Ahly replacement, scored once in the second half.
During stoppage time, Mutyaba had a chance to make it 3-1 via a counterattack, but his shot narrowly missed the mark.
After making his debut on February 25 in the CAF Confederation Cup 2-1 victory over Abu Salim of Libya, this was his second game wearing the Zamalek uniform.
With the victory, Zamalek and Al Ahly, who hold a one-goal edge, are now tied at 21 points. After 13 games, Zamalek is in 10th place and Al Ahly is in ninth.
On Sunday, April 21, Mutyaba and Zamalek will play again, this time against Ghana’s Dreams FC in the CAF Confederation Cup semifinal.
