Kampala Queens beats Asubo Ldies to send them into relegation
May 13, 2024
After losing to Kampala Queens 3-1 at Lugogo, Asubo Ladies were the first team to be demoted from the FUFA Women Super League this season. Through Miriam Ayo, the Asubo Ladies gained the lead, but Catherine Nagadya, Esther Namusoke, and Lukiya Namubiru of the Kampala Queens rallied back.
In the 41st minute, Ayo’s outstanding volley ended the tie after Sarah Babirye’s stunning free kick struck the crossbar.
After four extra minutes in the first half, Nagadya took matters into her own hands and even the scores.
As the second half began, Kampala Queens went all out to win. The 65th minute saw a stunning long-range goal from Esther Namusoke. Although Lukiya Namubiru, who replaced Lillian Kasuubo as a substitute and came off the bench, believed she had extended the lead, her tap-in from Nagadya’s play was disallowed for offside.
Just after the break on minute 72, Damalie Matama’s long-range shot struck the crossbar, and Namubiru scored again, and this time it stood.
With two games remaining, Asubo Ladies’ 10 points from 16 games guarantee their relegation back to the FUFA Women Elite League.
After hosting Kawempe Muslim at Kawanda, Asubo Ladies will play UCU Lady Cardinals to end the season.
The Kampala Queens have also fallen behind by one point. As the season nears its last two games, Kampala Queens have also fallen one point behind Kawempe Muslim, the top team in the table. Next weekend, Kampala Queens will travel to She Maroons before playing Kawempe Muslim in the season’s last match.
