Arsenal’s plan to sign Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes revealed
June 20, 2024
Arsenal is prepared to give players-plus-cash for the Newcastle midfield player, Bruno Guimaraes, as they have refocused their efforts on acquiring him.
Arsenal has returned its attention to a central midfielder after growing dissatisfied in their search for a center-forward and seeing Benjamin Sesko reject an approach to sign a new contract with RB Leipzig. Once again, the Gunners have their sights set on Guimaraes. They are waiting for a response about the player’s contract demands and desire in joining the Premier League, and they are growing frustrated with the agents of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.Newcastle’s contract contains a £100 million release clause for Guimaraes, and the Magpies may have to sell to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR). According to Football Transfers, Arsenal is eager to complete a deal for less than that asking amount and is prepared to put players in the package.
Newcastle may be interested in Emile Smith Rowe and Oleksandr Zinchenko, two players that Arsenal is willing to let go this summer. For the Magpies, who were without a reliable left-back for a large portion of the 2023–24 season, the latter in particular would be a wise addition.
Having struggled to get into the Emirates first squad, the 24-year-old has asked to look into his options these summer.
Arsenal is not the only team trying to sign Guimaraes, though. The 26-year-old is admired by both Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, and Liverpool has recently been connected to the Brazilian.
After joining from Lyon in January 2022 for a reported £40 million, the midfield player has been a huge success at St James’ Park. Last season, he scored seven goals in 37 league games.
As the Brazil team gets ready for this summer’s Copa America, which kicks off on June 21, Guimaraes is currently with them.
