SC Villa names Squad for CECAFA Kagame Cup

July 8, 2024

UPL reigning champions SC Villa has selected a touring team consisting of 25 players for the CECAFA Kagame Cup this year.
Twelve midfielders, three attackers, seven defenders, and three goalkeepers make up the side.

Along with adding six new players to the roster, Dusan Stojanovic also included left backs Simon Kato Semayange and Denis Kaka Omony, who both came from Soltilo Bright Stars, as this website had previously reported.

Isaac Mpagi, an attacking midfielder who previously played for Kitara FC and Vipers SC, Najib Yiga, a defender from Mbale Heroes, and Johnson Senyonga, a winger, all signed from Jinja North.

Leading the team to Tanzania are Ronald Ssekiganda, the league’s top midfield player, and Patrick Jonah Kakande, the most valuable player from the previous season’s Uganda Premier League.

SC Villa, the champions of the Uganda Premier League, are placed in Group C of the CECAFA Kagame Cup, which will begin on Tuesday, July 9–21. They are in the same group as South Sudan’s Al Mereick Bentui, Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars, and Rwanda’s APR FC.

The best runner-up team and the top teams from each group will advance straight to the semifinals.

On Tuesday, Stojanovic’s team will play Al Mereick Bentui of South Sudan to begin their campaign. After a 19-year break, SC Villa, who has won the CECAFA Kagame Cup three times already (1987, 2003, and 2005), will be participating in the competition once more.
