Uganda’s Sulaiman Segawa becomes new WBC champion

July 16, 2024

After fighting Ruben Villa, Sulaiman Segawa of Uganda was overwhelmingly crowned the new WBC Silver Featherweight title.
On Saturday at The Pearl Theatre at The Palms Resort Casino, Segawa defeated Ruben Villa by unanimous decision thanks to an incredible second half performance.

Segawa, a resident of Silver Springs, Maryland, and originally from Kampala, Uganda, rallied from a unanimous decision loss against Mirco Cuello in March when it mattered most.

Villa was the clear favorite to win the bout going into it. From the first bell, both southpaws were highly active. Segawa made the decision to remain close to Villa, which led to back-and-forth conversations.

With the victory over Villa, Sulaiman Ssegawa raises his record to 17-4-1 with six knockouts and solidifies his place among the top boxers in the featherweight class.
