Kitara ready for Al Hilal in the CAF Confederation Cup
August 16, 2024
In the Caf Confederation Cup first leg preliminary round on Friday evening in Libya, Kitara will play their first game on the continent against Al Hilal Benghazi of Libya.
The Royals’ home game is away from home, but Maxwell Owachigiu, the team captain, feels optimistic before the game.
“The team is in good shape. As you are aware, this is going to be our first continental game but with the training we have had in the past two weeks, we are versed with the tactics and will approach the game very well,” said Owachigiu.
“Since we are the away team, we are going to work hard to get good results to take into the second leg,” he added.
According to Owachigiu, having some players with prior experience on the continent will also help them in the game.
“We have some experienced players that have played on the continent and as players, we are in good mood under no pressure and Super 8 as well as the international friendly molded us and we shall give everything.”
Frank Tumwesigye, Marvin Nyanzi, and Titus Ssematimba have competed for their country’s under-age teams in Caf events, while Brian Aheebwa and Benjamin Nyakoojo have represented KCCA and URA on the continent.
In addition to the defense, Brian Ssenyondo will be counting on his strikers, Jude Ssemugabi and Denis Omedi, who proved deadly in the Fufa Super 8, to play well throughout both legs in order to guarantee advancement.
In the event that Kitara defeats the Libyan team, Al Masry of Egypt will be up next in the preliminary round. Caf Confederation Cup
