Rebecca Cheptegei, a long-distance runner from Uganda, is receiving treatment at Moi Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya.
Dickson Ndiema Marangach, her Kenyan boyfriend, is accused of dousing the runner with gasoline and setting her on fire.
The Trans Nzoia County commander, Jeremiah Ole Kosioma, disclosed that the runner suffered burns and is presently in serious condition at Moi Referral Hospital.
Her partner gets admitted with severe burns at the same hospital.
Cheptegei, along with compatriots Mercyline Chelangat and Stella Chesang, competed in the women’s marathon in the Paris Olympic Games last month, placing 48th.
She competed in and won gold in the uphill and downhill races at the 2021 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships, which were held in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2022.
