Triple Injury boost for Arsenal ahead of PSG UCL Clash

October 1, 2024

Today’s Champions League match between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will take place at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners defeated Leicester City 4–2 to get back to winning ways in the Premier League.

They controlled the game against the Foxes, but they had to put in a lot of effort to win.

Despite Mads Harmensen’s outstanding play in goal, Arsenal won thanks to a stoppage-time goal.

Arsenal’s goal going forward will be to win the Champions League for the first time under the new structure.

With Ousmane Dembele out tonight, it won’t be an easy challenge against PSG.

The return to full training of Riccardo Calafiori, Mikel Merino, and Takehiro Tomiyasu following their various injury worries has given the Gunners a triple boost ahead of the encounter.

PROJECTED LINEUP

For the Gunners, David Raya has been outstanding in goal. During the goalless draw with Atalanta, he produced a breathtaking double penalty save. He should keep going between the sticks.

It might be the same backline from the Foxes victory in front of him. Despite a small injury scare, Calafiori returned to team training prior to tonight’s match.

Jurrien Timber should start on the right side of defense, and the Italian at left back. Ben White, 26, has not yet resumed full training, therefore he might miss the game. He is still taking care of a small knee problem.

In central defense, Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba are excellent first choices.Given that PSG has been exposed in these situations, the two could have a significant impact from set-pieces. Thomas Partey performed admirably in the first half of the match against the Foxes, but his play deteriorated after the break.

Nevertheless, we expect him to start in central midfield next to Declan Rice. Leandro Trossard was excellent over the weekend, contributing two goals and setting up the club’s second goal (scoring the second goal and setting up Wilfred Ndidi’s own goal in the 94th minute).

The Belgian should continue to wear the number 10 jersey. Gabriel Martinelli had his best game of the season, scoring and providing an assist. He should be deployed on the left side of the attack.

Although Bukayo Saka did not directly contribute to a goal on Saturday, the Englishman was outstanding with the ball, winning nine duels and setting up eight opportunities for his teammates.

With Kai Havertz leading the line, he is a surefire starter on the right wing. For the Gunners, the German put in a lot of effort up front and finally scored a goal almost at the very end of the whistle.
