Days before their matchup with champions SC Villa in the Uganda Premier League, Maroons FC players are on strike over unpaid four-month arrears.
Only twelve players showed up for Monday’s training sessions at Luzira, as Swift Sports Uganda is aware.
Reliable sources claim that several of the players who missed practice are not prepared to return until the club management has fixed the problem.
According to sources, the club’s financial difficulties prevented important players who were crucial to the team last season—Fred Amaku, David Ndihabwe, defender Patrick Bayiga, Abraham Tusubira, Darius Ojok, and Jacob Okao—from extending their contracts.
With just one victory, two draws, and as many losses in their first five games of the 2024–25 season, Maroons FC has not had a strong start.
SC Villa, who gave up a two-goal lead over Soltilo Bright Stars last week, will be their next opponent on Thursday.
