Vipers SC brought an end to Mbarara City FC’s remarkable 16-match unbeaten streak at home with a 3-1 victory at Kakyeka Stadium on Tuesday. Allan Okello scored two penalties, while Yunus Sentamu added a third goal, propelling the Venoms to the top of the Uganda Premier League.
This victory marked the Venoms’ fourth straight win, following their successes against SC Villa, Wakiso Giants, and Police FC.
Mbarara City had not lost a league match at home in 16 games since their 1-0 loss to NEC FC on the first matchday of the previous season.
Okello opened the scoring for the visitors by converting a penalty in stoppage time at the end of the first half.
Shortly after the break, Okello scored another penalty for the Venoms, but Latif Ssenkubuge managed to reduce the deficit with a goal in the 56th minute.
Sentamu ensured maximum points for the Kitende-based team with a goal in the 70th minute.
In addition, Okello is now tied as the top scorer with five league goals and has found the back of the net in three consecutive matches.
Vipers currently sit at the top of the table with 16 points, leading NEC FC and KCCA FC by one and two points respectively, with the latter two having played one game fewer.
The Kitende-based team is set to host KCCA FC on November 9.
Mbarara City now occupies the fifth position in the standings with a total of 9 points gathered so far this season.
