The Uganda Cranes players who were called up have begun arriving at the camp in preparation for the important final two qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations against South Africa and Congo Brazzaville.
Five players based abroad have joined the Cranes Camp: Geoffrey Wasswa from Ethiopian Coffee FC (Ethiopia), Bobosi Byaruhanga (Austin II, USA), Timothy Awany (FC Ashdod, Israel), Isima Watenga (Golden Arrows FC, South Africa), and Nafian Alionzi (Defence Forces FC, Ethiopia).
Local players currently at Cranes Paradise Hotel in Kisasi include Allan Okello (Vipers SC), Hakim Kiwanuka (SC Villa), Ronald Ssekiganda (SC Villa), Gavin Kizito Mugweri (KCCA FC), Mutwalib Mugolofa (KCCA FC), Denis Omedi (Kitara FC), Jude Semugabi (Kitara FC), and Saidi Mayanja (KCCA FC), with more expected to join the team.
In the meantime, the players in camp will have a training session at 4:00 pm on Monday at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Paul Put’s squad aims to secure a spot in next year’s continental tournament when they play against South Africa at Mandela National Stadium on November 15, 2024, before traveling to face Congo four days later.
Currently, Uganda leads Group K with 10 points, two points ahead of South Africa, while Congo has four points. South Sudan remains without any points.
