Arsenal looking to prize Premier League duo in January window
January 7, 2025
According to sources, Arsenal wants to capture Brentford winger Mikkel Damsgaard and Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha during the January transfer window. Mikel Arteta’s team is now in second place in the Premier League, six points behind champions Liverpool, who have one game left to play their opponents. The Gunners have had a successful season.
Arsenal could have been performing even better if they had had more luck with injuries, given they have only lost two Premier League games all season. With Ethan Nwaneri, Gabriel Jesus, and Leandro Trossard starting from the beginning of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Brighton, their starting lineup demonstrated exactly how weak the Gunners are right now in attacking areas. Arteta wasn’t there.
Bukayo Saka, who has been sidelined for almost two months due to a hamstring tear last month, and Kai Havertz, who was absent due to illness, were not included in the squad against Brighton.
Nwaneri assumed Saka’s place on the right-hand side of their attack after Raheem Sterling, the most obvious successor for the England international, suffered an injury in the same week.
Arsenal managed just a point at the Amex Stadium thanks to a goal from Nwaneri before he too was injured at halftime. After the game, Arteta verified the following about Nwaneri: “Really bad news because I think we’ve lost him (Nwaneri), we had to take him off at half-time with some muscular issues.”
To help Arteta’s team compete at the top of the league and in other competitions, Arsenal may now need to make significant forward additions.
