Hassan Wasswa Mawanda, a former midfielder for the Uganda Cranes, will conduct the African Nations Championship (CHAN) Draw on Wednesday, January 15 in Kenya.
Hassan Wasswa, who played 75 games for the Uganda Cranes in his 13-year international career, will conduct the draw with Mrisho Ngasa of Tanzania and McDonald Mariga of Kenya.
The former midfielder for Vipers SC, SC Villa, and KCCA FC played in the Africa Cup of Nations Finals in Egypt in 2019 and Gabon in 2017. He served as the Uganda Cranes’ backup captain at the 2019 AFCON, behind captain Denis Onyango.
Ngasa, the second-most-capped Tanzanian player of all time and the country’s top scorer with 25 goals, was one of the best players to emerge from the East African country.
Highlights of his career, which began in 2005, include playing for Simba AC, Young Africans, and Azam FC, three of Tanzania’s greatest clubs.
The former striker played with the Free State Stars in South Africa before relocating to Oman, which is beyond Tanzania’s boundaries.
Victor Wanyama’s older brother, Mariga, had a dazzling career that includes two Coppa Italia victories, the Serie A trophy, and a UEFA Champions League championship with Inter Milan. In 2010, he also took home the FIFA Club World Cup.
In addition to playing for teams in Sweden and Spain, the former defensive midfielder was the first Kenyan to compete in the UEFA Champions League.
He scored five goals and earned 40 caps for the Kenyan national team. From February 1st to February 28th, Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania will host the 2024 CHAN Tournament.
The competition, which exclusively includes players from domestic leagues, is currently dominated by Senegal.
