Insecurity or confidence? Cristiano continues to brand himself GOAT as he reaches 40

February 5, 2025

With the same assurance and self-worth that he has consistently displayed throughout his prosperous career, Cristiano Ronaldo approaches his 40th birthday.

On Wednesday 5th February, Ronaldo, a former Real Madrid player who currently plays in Saudi Arabia, will turn 40. It seems that he is certain of who is the greatest soccer player of all time.

“I am the greatest scorer in history,” Ronaldo said in an interview with Spanish television channel La Sexta.

“Although I am not left-footed, I am in the top 10 in history for goals scored with the left foot. These are numbers, I am the most complete player who has ever existed.

“I play well with my head, I take good free kicks, I am fast, I am strong, I jump… I have never seen anyone better than me.”

With 217 appearances and 135 goals, the Portugal great holds the most scoring records in men’s international soccer. He has stated repeatedly that he believes he will be remembered as the greatest soccer player of all time.

He consistently lauded the Argentine but ultimately sided with himself when questioned about the debate over whether he or Lionel Messi is superior. The soccer community has some reactions to Ronaldo’s most recent remarks.

“I have a lot of respect for Cristiano and I don’t have to analyze his opinions. It’s what he thinks. I have my own thoughts and it isn’t that,” said Javier Mascherano, a former teammate of Messi and his current coach at Inter Miami.
