On Thursday at Lugogo, Hussein Mbalangu’s NEC FC narrowly defeated KCCA FC 1-0 to secure their first double. NEC FC defeated the 13-time Uganda Premier League winners with a smile thanks to an early strike from Enock Ssebaggala.
Muzamir Mutyaba, a former player for KCCA FC, scored the crucial goal as Mbalangu’s troops also prevailed 1-0 in the first leg match. In the ninth minute of the return leg match, Ssebaggala gave NEC the lead by heading home a fine cross from Atendele Geriga.
Mutwalib Mugolofa, the goalie for KCCA FC, produced a double save a moment later to keep out James Jarieko and Ssebaggala. Five minutes before the break, NEC goaltender Hannington Ssebwalunyo stopped Ashraf Mugume’s attempt.
Ibrahim Kasinde, a rookie, had the finest opportunity to score a dream goal in the second period, but Mugolofa stopped him. NEC FC managed to hold onto their maximum number of points, which allowed them to get within one point of leaders Vipers SC.
They now stand at 36 points and will next visit Police FC on Saturday. Vipers SC, the leaders, will be the next opponent for KCCA FC on Sunday as their troubles continue.
