Arne Slot says that Liverpool’s form has not dipped following Villa Draw

After an intriguing 2-2 draw against Aston Villa, Arne Slot maintained that Liverpool was not in a slump in form but conceded that they needed to get back to their clinical best in order to win again.

After Trent Alexander-Arnold equalized in the second half, Slot acknowledged that Darwin Núñez was “down and disappointed” after losing a fantastic opportunity to put his team ahead 3-2.

Liverpool had to make do with a point, which puts them eight points ahead of Arsenal, who are in second position and will visit West Ham on Saturday.

Liverpool, who play Manchester City on Sunday, has only won once in their last four games, including a shocking FA Cup loss to Championship underdogs Plymouth. Despite this, they are still undefeated on the road this season.

The head coach of Liverpool said, “I don’t feel like that at all,” when asked if his club was experiencing a slump. It’s usually a tough match whenever you travel to Villa.

“Villa away, that’s a difficult one, City away, that’s a difficult one,” you know at the beginning of the season. I don’t think there was a decline in performance today, but you may disagree.

“What we must not do and we’ve done a bit too often now, is we don’t get what we deserve. If you look at all the chances and put them in a row, from us and from them, I think it’s clear which team should have won.

“We must not make a habit out of that because it’s happened a bit too much now. But still we are eight points clear of Arsenal, who have a game in hand.”

Dominik Szoboszlai squared the ball to Núñez, who replaced Diogo Jota with a quarter of the game remaining, but he missed a great opportunity. Slot stated:

“I saw an unbelievable pass from Conor Bradley, a powerful run from Dominik Szoboszlai, who made in my opinion the perfect choice to square because he made it an open-goal chance and then Darwin, it was not the best, he’s right-footed, of course, but it’s still a big chance.

“I was hoping he would get another chance. We were all disappointed but it’s normal that a player like this is a bit more disappointed. There is one player in the dressing room who feels quite down. You know who it is.”
