Mohammed Salah speaks up as Liverpool miss Champions League football at expense of Man U

Manchester United last night confirmed Liverpool’s existence in the 2023-24 Europa League campaign.
The Red Devils needed just a point to confirm their return to Champions League football but they got 3 after thrashing Chelsea 4-1.
Goals from Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford handed Ten Hag’s side maximum points. Chelsea’s consolation was scored by Joao Felix.
The win took United to third place on 72 points 2 above Newcastle who confirmed their UCL place a day before.
With a game to go, Liverpool have 66 points and it means even if they were to win it, they would still be a point behind 4th placed Newcastle.
It had taken 7 years since Liverpool last featured in the Europa League. They have been perennial in the Champions League, winning it once and losing two finals to Real Madrid.
Liverpool’s Egyptian forward Mohammed Salah has described this as unacceptable for Liverpool. He said that qualifying for the UCL should be the bare minimum for the Merseyside club.
Salah apologized to the Kops and added that hopefully they will make it next season.
“I’m totally devastated. There’s absolutely no excuse for this. We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League and we failed. We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum. I am sorry but it’s too soon for an uplifting or optimistic post. We let you and ourselves down.”
