After a transfer squabble arose in the French city around the possible arrival of Manchester United attacker Mason Greenwood, it has been reported that Arsenal has been approached by Marseille for Eddie Nketiah.
On Wednesday morning, the Manchester Evening News announced that United had agreed to accept a bid for Greenwood from Marseille that was estimated to be worth around £27 million. Although the 22-year-old’s interest in the Ligue 1 club has been widely reported in recent weeks, Marseille Mayor Benoit Payan has harshly criticized the approach as the deal approaches completion.
He insisted that it was “unacceptable” for the Englishman to join Roberto De Zerbi’s squad, telling RMC that he did not want his team to be “covered in shame” as a result of acquiring Greenwood. Since January 2022, when the club suspended Greenwood for attempting rape, acting in a dominating and coercive manner, and assault resulting in actual bodily damage, the player has not appeared for United.
A little more than a year later, Greenwood saw the case against him dropped when the Crown Prosecution Service dropped all charges. The winger scored 10 goals in 36 appearances while on loan at Getafe during the previous campaign.
