Allan Okello defends Uganda Cranes over their playing style

Attacker Allan Okello of the Uganda Cranes and Vipers SC feels that AFCON qualification is more significant than playing style.
The Uganda Cranes team was criticized after their tenacious 1-0 victory over South Sudan on Friday at Mandela National Stadium.

In the victory over South Sudan, Okello, who entered the game as a second-half replacement, stated that the Cranes prioritize qualification over playing style.

“I think results are more important for us to think about no matter how we play, we need those results. We need to go back to AFCON, I have never been there like many other members on the team. So in our mind, it’s for us to be there and no matter how we play, I think it’s good for us to qualify.”

“Maybe after the qualification , we shall work on our mistakes.” Said Okello

When the two teams play on Tuesday in Juba, the Uganda Cranes will be hoping to win twice over South Sudan.

To qualify for the continental championship in Morocco the following year, Paul Put’s team needs to win four of their final three games.

The Cranes’ most recent appearance was in 2019, hence they were absent from the preceding two tournaments in 2021 and 2023.
