Ex Vipers coach Leo Neiva sacked by Kenyan side Gor Mahia

November 14, 2024

The Kenyan football club Gor Mahia has ended its contract with head coach Leo Neiva due to a series of unsatisfactory results. The club made this announcement on Wednesday through a statement that reads,

“We hereby announce the end of engagement with Coach Leo Neiva. We truly thank him for his services and appreciate the times he spent at the club.” Confirmed a statement from Gor Mahia

Neiva was appointed as the head coach of the 30-time champions of the Kenya Premier League in July, taking over from former Uganda Cranes coach Johnathan McKinstry, whose contract has ended.

His assistant coaches, Zedekiah Otieno and Michael Nam, will manage the club temporarily.

He departs with the defending champions sitting in 12th place in this season’s FKF Premier League standings after six matches.

The Brazilian has managed 13 games, securing just three wins, drawing an equal number, and losing seven in all competitions.

During his tenure, the Brazilian coach was in charge when Gor Mahia suffered a defeat in the Caf Champions League, exiting in the second preliminary round after being beaten 6-0 on aggregate by Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly.

Gor Mahia will return to play in the Mashemeji Derby, where they will confront AFC Leopards on November 24th, following the international break.
