The Confederation of African Football has revealed the nominees for each of the seven men’s categories for the upcoming CAF Awards.
For the prestigious CAF Player of the Year 2024 award, Ivory Coast and Brighton & Hove winger Simon Adingra, who played a crucial role in Ivory Coast’s Africa Cup of Nations victory earlier this year, has made the shortlist.
He will compete against Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi from PSG, Ronwen Williams, the goalkeeper for Mamelodi Sundowns and South Africa, and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, who also plays for Borussia Dortmund.
In addition to assisting Nigeria in reaching the AFCON Final in Ivory Coast, Lookman was instrumental in Atalanta’s triumph in the Europa League.
The Nigerian striker netted a hat-trick for Atalanta in their 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final.
Remarkably, he became the first player to score a hat-trick in a one-legged UEFA Europa League final.
The 2024 CAF Awards will consider performances from January 2024 to October 2024.
Winners for the seven categories will be unveiled at the awards ceremony set to take place in Morocco on December 16th.
