Carlo Ancelotti set to cure Mbappe’s lack of confidence after Liverpool penalty miss
November 28, 2024
Carlo Ancelotti has shared his thoughts on what Kylian Mbappe must focus on to regain his peak performance following a lackluster display against Liverpool on Wednesday night.
The Reds dismantled Real Madrid in a match that showcased a truly ruthless performance in front of their supporters, with Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo finding the back of the net during a thrilling Champions League encounter.
Both teams were awarded penalties, but neither succeeded in converting them, as Mbappe saw his attempt saved by Caoimhin Kelleher while Mohamed Salah hit the post with an errant shot.
However, the French star struggled to make a significant impact on the match; his passing was often inaccurate, and his renowned speed and dynamic runs lacked their usual effectiveness.
This situation arises as the Les Bleus captain – who has been excluded from Didier Deschamps’ latest squad – faces a challenging beginning in the Spanish capital, with only two goals since late September.
Nevertheless, Ancelotti has provided some guidance for his struggling forward, who has yet to reach the high standards that the world expects from him at the Bernabeu.
‘It has happened many times that forwards have a hard time scoring. There is a medicine which is to be patient,’ the Italian boss revealed after the bruising defeat by Liverpool.’It is a difficult moment for him, especially after missing the penalty. Everyone has to support him.’
Ancelotti added: ‘He may be a bit lacking in confidence. When things don’t go your way, the idea you have to have is to play simple. ‘It’s a bit like this moment, but you can’t judge him for missing a penalty. All players miss penalties. He has to keep working well. We have to be patient because he’s an extraordinary player.’
