CHAN Draw to go ahead as planned despite competition being postponed

January 15, 2025

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially announced the postponing of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. The competition was set to take place in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda from February 1st to February 28th.

In response to technical and infrastructure experts’ advice that more time is needed to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities in the three countries are up to par for hosting a tournament of this size, CAF announced that the tournament would now take place in East Africa (Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania).

Although the final team lineup has not yet been determined, the CHAN group draw will still take place in Nairobi on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, despite the postponement.

The draw will be conducted by local East African legends Hassan Wasswa (Uganda), Mrisho Ngasa (Tanzania), and McDonald Mariga (Kenya) at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (“KICC”) in Nairobi, Kenya.

Before Libya and Tunisia withdrew from the finals, 19 countries were originally scheduled to compete. Prior to the rescheduled tournament, CAF is anticipated to release information on a second qualifying event.

Teams Selected for the 2024 CHAN Tournament Angola, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Congo-Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea, Madagascar, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, Zambia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda are the co-hosts.
