Following two unsuccessful bids, Manchester United and Bayern Munich have halted their negotiations over Mathys Tel. Another significant turn has been added to the Frenchman’s strange January.
After rejecting a permanent transfer to Tottenham earlier in the week for €60 million, Tel agreed to a move to Manchester United on Sunday afternoon. Negotiations between the club were challenging, nevertheless, as was already recognized when the news first surfaced.
Man Utd had offered a loan, which was exactly what Tel wanted. However, Bayern rejected the idea and insisted on a long-term contract or at the very least a loan with a buyout clause.
Tel’s previous decision to reject Tottenham, which would have allowed the Bavarians to make a €40 million profit on a youngster who has battled to establish himself in the first squad, is sure to have angered Bayern, who need to raise money following a summer of extravagant spending.
After the Bundesliga powerhouses turned down a second, better offer for Tel, Ben Jacobs and Sky Germany now claim that negotiations between Manchester United and Bayern are off the table.
