Express shockingly knocked out of Uganda Cup

Yumbe-based side Total FC knocked out Express FC, the joint-record Stanbic Uganda Cup winners. Adinan Khemis scored the crucial goal as Total defeated the Red Eagles 1-0 to advance to the competition’s round of 16.

Express FC entered the match without four of its most important players: Derrick Ngoobi, Sam Ssenyonjo, Richard Basangwa, and captain Alex Emmanuel Wasswa. Following Mbale Heroes’ 3-2 loss to Simba FC in the round of 64, the Red Eagles became the second Uganda Premier League team to be eliminated from the competition this season.

In the meantime, SC Villa, the nine-time competition champions, defeated Simba of the Buganda Regional League 1-0 in Namulonge to proceed to the round of 16.

The Jogoos put a stop to Simba’s run in the second period when Aslam Ssemakula scored the game’s lone goal.The last time SC Villa won the competition was in 2015, when they defeated KCCA FC in the Mandela National Stadium final.

In Wednesday’s other match, Rwenzori Lions defeated Buhimba Saints FC 4-3 in a shootout after a goalless draw in regular time. Kitara FC, the CATDA host team, and Kaaro Karungi FC will play Busia Young Stars FC on Thursday before Vipers host Mbarara City in the round of 32.
