The captains of the Uganda Crested Cranes have been announced by head coach Sheryl Botes before of Uganda’s match against Ethiopia in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 Qualifiers.
The team captain is Viola Nambi, a forward with Aland United Women FC in Finland. Experienced forward Fazila Ikwaput, who now plays as the first deputy for Gokulam Kerala WFC in India, will support her. Ruth Aturo, a goalie for Tanzanian team Tausi WFC, will be the second deputy captain.
On Friday, February 21, 2025, at Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo, Uganda will play Ethiopia’s Lucy at home to begin their WAFCON 2026 qualifying campaign.
The aggregate winner advances to the next qualifying round, and the return leg is scheduled for February 26 in Addis Ababa.
