Thomas Tuchel has challenged England to produce a statement performance when they face Serbia in Belgrade on Tuesday, warning that the physical contest will be a sharp step up from their unconvincing win over Andorra.
England struggled to impress in Saturday’s qualifier at Villa Park, relying on a Christian Garcia Gonzalez own goal and a late Declan Rice header to secure three points.
“We expect an emotional crowd and a very physical team playing direct football,” Tuchel said. “No excuses — we must adapt, be tough, and show we’re a strong group.”
Despite the uneven display, England remain top of Group K with a perfect record of 12 points from four matches. Serbia, with seven points from three games, are their closest challengers.
