Match fixing threatening to ruin SC Villa’s UPL season

January 3, 2023

At a time when one thought that Uganda’s most successful club SC Villa are on the right track from the woes that have dogged them over the years, it now seems everything is going back to default settings.

This is after claims of match fixing are threatening to ruin their fair season in the league.

A few days ago saw the team manager Dan Mubiru showed the exit door.

It’s said that Mubiru failed in his role thus being axed.

And now the U17 coach who has also been the fitness coach Philip Ssozi has been fired.

It should be noted that both Ssozi and Mubiru are Villa legends.

Soirces state that the two angered the club president Omar Mandela by mismanaging and misusing club resources.

“Mubiru failed to do what he was hired to do and have developed a toxic environment around the team, and he was never honest with his boss Mandela,” a source told local football  website, Football256.

“Sozzi’s issues are nor for public consumption to sat the least, but it seems the management just got tired of him,” the sourced added.

Still, rumors have it that the club might experience a massive exodus of players leaving the club.

And this is all attributed to match fixing with the club already investigating the matter.

It is said that about 6 players have already confessed to participating in the acts.

“These boys have been fixing games, the evidence is overwhelming, there are audios and the confessions from players,” the source further told Football 256.

Cases of match fixing are not a new phenomenon in Ugandan football.

The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) recently banned referee John Bosco Kalibala for 15 years.

This is after he was found guilty of partaking in match fixing.

These cases have also been mentioned in the lower leagues of FUFA.
