KCCA coach Morley Byekwaso sacks himself from club

April 17, 2023

KCCA FC head coach Morley Byekwaso has shown himself the exit door at the Lugogo based club. This came at the back of defeat by Soltilo Bright Stars in the quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Noordin Bunjo scored the only goal at Kavumba Recreation Centre as the Kasasiro  Boys got ejected out of the cup. After the game during his press conference, Byekwaso revealed what looked like the inevitable soon.

He said that he had decided to resign due to the influence and excessive power of players at the club. According to Byekwaso, they always do well in training.

And each player is assigned their role but when they get to the pitch they do contrary things. It should be noted that there has been talk of how the coach had fallen out with several players at the 13 time league winners.

“I have made my decision as a coach today. I have resigned because I am seeing player power in the team. I’m not going to go on facing such situations, when we train, we give every player a role to play but once a player does not respect that role it brings that dis-organisation into the game. This is what we faced because of indiscipline, I cannot go on,” Said Byekwaso after the game.

Byekwaso pointed out one scenario of player power. This was during the loss to Bright Stars. KCCA got a penalty which could have brought them back into the game.

However Congolese forward Simon Tshisungu Kakonde’s effort was saved by Hassan Matovu. Kakonde meanwhile is not KCCA’s penalty taker.

He was just off the bench and he contested to take the spot kick which he missed. Byekwaso said that although penalties are missed, it wasn’t his to take.

The club has been posting some awful results in the past couple of games. They are 5 points behind league leaders SC Villa although with two games in hand.
