Kitara wins FUFA Big League trophy as Police misses out on promotion

Hoima based side Kitara FC were yesterday crowned the winners of the FUFA Big League after beating Kaaro Karungi 1-0.
This only goal of the game was scored by former Vipers midfielder Paul Mucureezi and it was a penalty.
Kitara with this win finished with 61 points. The club under Sam Ssimbwa also had an impressive record at their home ground, Kigaya playgrounds.
They didn’t lose a game there and won 13 drawing 2 times.
Kitara however narrowly won the crown. This is because they had just one point above Mbarara City.
The Ankore Lions having beaten Northern Gateway 3-0 finished with 60 points.
In the other battle, it was between Police FC and NEC FC to see who would join both Kitara and Mbarara in securing league promotion.
By the end of it, it was National Enterprise Corporation Football Club (NEC FC) that earned promotion after they rain riot against Kataka in Mbale by 4-1.
A double from Julius Walugembe with and a goal apiece Tonny Kiberu and Marvin Kavuma earned the Bugolobi based side promotion.
They finished with 57 points. Police on the other hand were held to a 1-1 draw against Jinja North FC.
At the end of the 2022-2023 season, it was Kitara, Mbarara City and NEC that earned promotion. Soroti City FC, Luweero United and Northern Gateway SC were relegated to their respective FUFA Regional Leagues.
