SC Villa one win away from being crowned champions of the 2022-2023 Uganda Premier League season
May 23, 2023
Sports Club Villa (SC Villa) is one win away from being crowned the winners of the 2022-2023 Uganda Premier League season. This is after grinding so hard to pick up a win against Blacks Power at Mutesa II Stadium.
Villa found the back of the net through their inform forward Charles Bbale in the early stages of the second half.
Blacks Power couldn’t respond and it was Villa more on the offensive.
The game however didn’t go past this score. And the Jogoos marched back to the top of the league after results from their competitors, KCCA and Vipers SC.
Reigning champions Vipers SC needed a late injury penalty to avoid defeat and stay in the title race against BUL.
The soap makers took the lead in Jinja through Samuel Ssekamatte in the 65th minute. Vipers only equalized in the 94th minute through a penalty by Karim Watambala after Yunus Sentamu was fouled in the box.
On the other hand, KCCA was held to a goalless draw by Busoga United in Jinja.
The Kasasiro boys couldn’t find a way past Busoga United and saw them come back to Kampala for the final game with their title chances hanging by a thread.
The result means Villa have themselves to blame if they fail to win the league. Jackson Magera’s side now have 52 points and will host URA on Saturday.
Vipers and KCCA are now in second and third positions respectively all on 50 points although the Venoms have a superior goal difference.
Vipers will host Busoga United while KCCA will be squaring off with Soltilo Bright Stars on the final day.
All games will be played at 4pm. Villa last won the league in 2004 and it’s 19 years since they lifted the trophy they have won a record 16 times.
