Tanzanian champions’ Yanga FC looses first leg advantage in finals of CAF Confederation

Yanga FC 1-2 USM Alger – Benjamin Mpaka Stadium

Tanzanian league champions Yanga SC were brought to worry of winning a double this season when they lost 2-1 to USM Alger in their first leg of the final at Benjamin Mpaka Stadium.

It was the first loss of Yanga FC in Continental matches eversince October 2019.

The game started with the Visitors asking alot of questions to the hosts that even saw Yanga’s Custodian Djigui Diarra make a fine save from Kibwana Shomari’s attempt.

However Yanga FC picked up the momentum with Fiston Mayele reaching on scoring scene two occasions but failing to convert.

Yanga FC was forced to pay after USM Alger scored the opener in the 32nd minute through Aymen Mahious.

In the Second half, both teams didn’t create scoring chances until in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Congolese forward Fiston Mayele sent the hosts’ fans into wide celebrations when he volleyed for an equaliser in the 82nd minute.

One minute later, Yanga FC’s defenders were on joke after failing to clear danger. They were punished by Islam Merilli thanks to Khaled Bouseseliou’s assist.

Yanga FC were already announced Champions of Tanzania this season, however they will a 2-0 win in Algeria to become first Tanzanian club to win a Continental title.
