Top 10 FOOTBALL RECORDS that seem impossible to break

June 13, 2023

Football is without a doubt the most beloved sport in the world. It is more than a game but rather a lifestyle.

The fact that has always made football interesting is the records are by the players and the football clubs plus fans too. Although it said that records are meant to be broken by men, let’s take a look at some of the top 10 records in football that seem quite impossible to be repeated or broken. These top 10 records are some our best footballers.

Messi’s 91 goals in one calendar year.

This was in 2012 and he ended up breaking Gerd Muller‘s record of 85 goals set in 1972.

Ronaldo’s scoring in 5 consecutive World Cups.

This seems quite breakable especially depending on a player’s longevity. One of the possible names that could break it is French forward Kylian Mbappe. He’s so far scored in 2 World Cups and has amassed 12 goals in two tournaments. He is 4 short of the all time top scorer, Germany’s Miroslav Klose. Mbappe is also just 24 years and these are records well within his reach.

Lewandowski’s 5 goals in 9 minutes.

The Polish put 5 past Wolfsburg in 2015 under Pep Guardiola. This looks like a feat hard to repeat.

Lionel Messi scored in 21 consecutive league games.

“The most consecutive games scored in La Liga is 21, achieved by Lionel Messi (Argentina) for FC Barcelona from 11 November 2012 to 15 May 2013. Messi scored 33 goals in 21 consecutive matches from matchday 11 to 34 in the 2012/13 league season.”

Sir Alex Ferguson winning 49 trophies.

This is another record that also is breakable on this list but the former Man United boss has it. Apparently this will also depend on the longevity of the manager and Pep Guardiola looks the favorite to beat it.

Guardiola has so far won 35 trophies and in fewer years than the Scottish gaffer.

Sadio Mane’s fastest Premier League hat- trick in 2 minutes 56 seconds.

The Senegalese achieved this record while playing for Southampton. This was in 2015 as the Saints beat Aston Villa 6-1.

Timed at six minutes 12 seconds, Salah came off the bench to score the fastest Champions League hat-trick.

“During Liverpool’s 7-1 win on Wednesday over Rangers FC in the UEFA Champions League group stage, Salah scored a hat-trick in just six minutes and 12 seconds, making it the quickest period to achieve the feat in the competition’s history.”

Lionel Messi winning seven Ballon d’Ors.

After winning the World Cup, the former Barcelona and PSG forward looms on course for a record extending 8th Ballon D’or.

He won his first in 2009. Then in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2019 and 2021. He also has the record for the most consecutive Ballon D’or wins which was 3 in a row.

Brazil legend Pele holding the record for scoring the most hat-tricks with 92 in his career

Gerardo Bedoya with the most number of red cards in football history, with 46.

He is a Colombian former defender currently aged 47.

Chelsea setting the record for the fewest goals conceded in a Premier League season (15).

“José Mourinho’s Chelsea only conceded 15 goals the entire Premier League season. However, six of the 15 were a penalty, a deflection, an own goal and three long range shots. “

Arsenal’s Invincibles

This was achieved in the 2003-04 season. They won 26 games and drew 12 games finishing with 90 points. They would go on to 49 games unbeaten before falling 2-0  to Manchester United at Old Trafford in a controversial game.
