Rahim Sterling furious after being left of England’s Euro qualifiers

September 1, 2023

Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling has expressed his disappointment and fury after being left out of Gareth Southgate’s 26 man squad for the upcoming Euro Qualifiers.

The former Manchester City winger who started a bit sloppy to the season has picked up his form and netted 2 goals in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Luton.

England will be taking on Ukraine, a game that will be played in Poland and Scotland.

“Raheem will revert to the coach for all comment but would like to reinforce that the decision has been respected,” his camp said in a statement. “Raheem will continue to focus on his domestic form.”

This will be the third time the 28 year old misses out for England. He was injured in March and asked for time off in June to rehabilitate.

“I understood why he wanted to focus on the fitness in June and we are seeing the benefits of that now,” Southgate said. “Of course, when you are not in other people have the shirt.
“For me, it’s not…. I understand why it’s a big story but it is a position on the field where we have great competition. It is a difficult call and Raheem is not particularly happy about it but he is an excellent player.”

The ex Liverpool man will have to work hard to gain his way back into the England squad where he has made over 82 appearances.

Southgate made some surprise inclusions in his squad such as Jordan Henderson who now plays in the Saudi Pro League. Harry Maguire who always makes the squad despite his form also got included although he’s yet to play for United.

Arsenal’s striker Eddie Nketiah was also able to receive his first England senior call up.
