September 16, 2023

The Premier League yesterday gave out the awards for the best performers of the month of August amd Tottenham Hotspurs emerged as the biggest winners.

In the category of best coach, Greek coach Ange Postecoglu bagged the award in what is his inaugural season. Tottenham played their first game and earned a 2 all draw with Brentford.

They later won 2-0 against Manchester United. Spurs went ahead to beat Bournemouth 2-0 away and went to the international break after thumping Burnley 5-2.

The 58 year old joined Spurs at the beginning of this season from Celtics and became the first Greek and Australian manager in the Premier. He’s quickly become a fan favorite due to his style of play.

And without their leading goalscorer of all time, Harry Kane, the club has found no problem in bagging the goals.

Postecoglu beat Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, West Ham’s David Moyes, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta.

It was still a Tottenham player who emerged triumphant in the player category and this was none other new signing, James Maddison.

The £40m signing from Leicester has fitted in perfectly at the London stadium recording 2 goals and 2 assists in his first games for the club.

“It was a fairly low-risk acquisition because he’s just a quality player, we knew that,” Postecoglou said.
“But I think the way he’s embraced the whole football club, his contribution on and off the field, he’s obviously part of the leadership group but the way he’s just embraced the whole group and the whole club has been fantastic for us.”

Maddison beat the likes of Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi, West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Kaoru Mitoma and Manchester City’s Rodri to the award.

Brighton’s Karou Mitoma’s goal against Wolves an incredible solo run won goal of the month. Liverpool’s Alisson Becker won the save of the month for his save against Miguel Almiron against Newcastle.
